 Fly Tying 102-Getting to the next level

charlie-tying-copy.jpgThis course has been designed to take an advanced beginner or intermediate fly tier to the next skill level.  The techniques/flies to be covered in this class are comparadun, split calf tail, and parachute dry fly wings, spinning deer hair, extended body mayflies, dubbing loops, traditional wets, and marabou speys.  Due to the relative difficulty of some of these techniques, this course is not suited for a tier with little or no experience.  The following is a list of pre-requisites for people interested in signing up for the class:

  • Experience winging dry flies
  • Experience tying with various types of hair
  • Experience dubbing wet and dry flies
  • Can easily whip-finish a fly

Fly tying 102 is a great class for those looking to improve their ability at the vise.  The techniques learned will help you tie a wider array of patterns that will catch you more fish.  Call the shop if you have any inquiries or would like to sign up.

Fly Tying 101

Fly tying is a timeless tradition with endless possibilities.  Tight Lines will help you learn the art of fly tying in this three week program designed to give you the basics.  By the end of this comprehensive course, students will have a more advanced 046.JPGunderstanding of the tools and materials associated with fly tying, as well as the techniques used for success.  Each student will tie a series of flies over over the three week course that incorporate the major techniques needed in fly tying.  The class includes handouts, refreshments, and the use of equipment and materials.  Each group is kept small in order to provide a positive learning environment and personal attention.  While the class is three weeks in length, our dedication to encouraging new tyers in unending.  Fell free to stop in with questions-the vise is always set up.

Fly Fishing 101

 

Tight Lines Fly Fishing schools will give you the skills necessary to become a successful angler.  Fly Fishing can be an intimidating sport, but with our comprehensive school, we’ll make it much more user-friendly.   Our classes are held to a limited number of students in order to ensure a student to teacher ratio that provides plenty of one on one attention.  This one day school takes place over approximately 8 hours-handouts, lunch, and refreshments are provided.

 Topics covered:

  

Equipment

  • Learn about rods, reels, and wading gear

  • Put the equipment together and learn the importance of knot tying

Reading the water

  • Learn to identify the different sport fish found in Wisconsin
  • Introduction to holding water and how to recognize it through a slide presentation.

Entomology

  • Learn what the fish eat and what flies represent this food.
  • Hands-on opportunity to see examples of insects and other sources of food with preserved specimens as well as a slide show.

Fly Casting

  • To conclude the day, students will have the opportunity to put a rod and reel in their hand and learn the most important ingredient of successful fly fishing.
  • The casting portion is held outdoors whenever possible, and indoors during the winter and spring months.

The Fly Fishing 101 School is a one day event.  Classes will be held on the following dates:
