Fishing Notes: This is one of the shops favorite patterns for our Central and SW Spring Creeks. It can be fished in the film, as a midge Pupae or down and dirty behind your favorite nymph pattern.
Over the last couple of seasons, many of you have asked us to do a video on the Bart-O Minnow. This is the real deal. Bart stopped by and we finally did it. Enjoy!

Under flash: Copper Flashabou, Bronze Angel Hair After you have tied some tube flies the question becomes “how do I rig them”? Charlie and Tim made a short video clip on how to do this. Click here for the tube fly rigging video
The guys in the shop have been fishing a ton of tube flies this fall! They are fun to tie and fish have responded very well to them.
April 2009 Fly of the month-Charlies Secret Attack Midge
Fly Recipe
Thread: Uni 8/0 Black
Hook: TMC 2488 Size 22Post: Para Post Wing Fl. Orange
Abdomen: Black Midge Diamond Braid
Thorax: Peacock Herl
Wing: Gray Swiss Straw
Hackle: Grizzly dry fly hackle
With the water levels low and clear the secret attack midge works perfect on those spooky midge risers. The great part of this fly is that you can see it well.
The little black stonefly is the March fly of the month. Other than midge, this is the first important hatch on most of our trout streams in Wisconsin.
Weight: Hareline Dubbin tungsten scud bodies size small
Dubbing: Arizona Scud blend(This is the best scud blend we have ever seen. It is a combination of rabbit and antron.)
Shell back: Wet a hook epoxy w/UV light
Fishing notes:This fly is a tank! Very heavy. Kim fishes the spring creeks more than anyone else I know and he seems to have them dialed. He uses this fly as his point and many times can avoid using split shot all together. This is the perfect fly for a shallow riffle into a deep pool. It gets down to the fishes level ASAP. A must for the upcoming trout season.
This is a very simple yet effective tube fly. We have had great luck with it in spring, fall and all through the winter months. Give us a shout at the shop and we will be happy to help you with the materials.
